Our Custom Design Process

  • WHAT IS YOUR DESIGN PROCESS LIKE?
Initial Client Consultation: Meet with you to discuss your needs, goals, budget, and project scope. Whether you have a home addition, remodel, custom design, or something unique, we value our time together on-site. Phase 1: Research and Discovery: Conduct research on your needs and design goals, including your inspiration, square footage goals, number of rooms, architectural style, and unique spaces. Our goal is to gain an understanding of exactly what you want in your space. Phase 2: Concept Development: Brainstorm and develop 2D initial design concepts, sketches, and ideas based on our brief. Adjust and refine the chosen concepts based on your feedback with iterations of drawings, aiming to walk away with a solid foundation for design, and excitement to see it come to life in 3D. Phase 3: 3D Modeling & Continued Design: Develop 3D models in SketchUp or Revit to visualize the design in detail and ensure accuracy. We will present 3D designs to you over frequent virtual calls for approval before moving to the next phase. We never move forward from this phase until you are fully satisfied with the design. During this process, we will also consult with the Structural Engineer and Home Builder (if available) for building feasibility, local to your area. Phase 4: 3D Rendering: Develop 8k, high-resolution renders using Lumion or D5 engines for realistic materials, furniture, landscaping, sun studies, and weather. This is our chance to work backwards into Phase 3 if necessary to perfect the design based on our discovery during the rendering process. Phase 5: Plan Documentation: Once we have your approval for design, we being creating detailed, dimensioned drawings, schedules, and documentation, ready for construction. Note, we do not stamp architectural drawings or provide structural construction details.
  • WHAT DOES THE PRICING PROCESS LOOK LIKE?
Within the industry, custom design processes can span from $2.25 to $12.50/sq ft depending on the complexity & needs of the client and design. At MC3, we've noticed that our clients value top-tier architectural design coupled with a fair price and professional service. We aim to build long term relationships, and understand their time is invaluable to us, as we handle it with the utmost respect. We offer a "Phased" approach for our clients during the invoicing process. The phases of this approach will be determined by scope of work, time required, and resources required to complete the job. For example, a smaller project may receive a 25% upfront, 75% upon completion. Whereas a large project may be Phase 1: 10%, Phase 3: 25%, Phase 4: 35%, and Phase 5: 30%. We work with our clients to make sure they're comfortable with the payment schedule based on estimated completion dates as well.
  • HOW LONG DOES A DESIGN PROJECT USUALLY TAKE?
Typically, we see small design projects taking anywhere from 3-8 weeks, with the more complex projects lasting 3-6 months. Let us know ahead of time if there is a deadline on your project so we can do our best to fit your schedule. Pro Tip: - Please leave extra time for your project to ensure you can take advantage of design revisions. - Make any deadlines you have known upfront.
  • WHAT DO I NEED TO GET STARTED?
Generally, a set of ideas, rough online plans, or a dream is an excellent place to start. Inspiration allow us to provide you with a quote, and it begins the conversation to find out what your goals and expectations are for this project.
  • WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF DESIGNING IN 3D?
Enhanced Visualization: 3D models provide a realistic perspective of the final product, helping our clients better understand the project’s outcome. Improved Communication: Easier for us at MC3 to convey complex ideas and designs to clients, stakeholders, and team members. Increased Accuracy: 3D design reduces errors and inconsistencies by visualizing exact dimensions, proportions, and spatial relationships. Cost and Time Efficiency: Potential issues are identified early, reducing rework, and speeding up the design process. Better Collaboration: Enables real-time collaboration among interior designers, drafters, engineers, and other teams using shared models. Flexibility and Iteration: Easier to make changes and iterations on a design without starting from scratch, even live on our client calls! Enhanced Marketing: High-quality 3D renderings and animations improve marketing materials and presentations for prospective clients, investors, and other key players. Sustainability: Reduces material waste by allowing virtual experimentation and optimization before production.
  • DO I NEED ARCHITECTURAL PLANS?
Short answer: No Long answer: Online inspiration is ideal but not required. We can work off napkin sketches/rough drawings/PDFs or reference photos with some basic dimensions. At MC3, what truly sets us apart is our extreme attention to 3D accuracy, which translates into 2D plans. If we receive existing plans, we import them into the software for a frame of reference with an accuracy of 1/8". We've also worked with low quality house plans listed online, only as a low resolution photo, not requiring any home plan purchases from your end. This allows for a more tailored approach when recreating the house plans, although more pricey.
